Beerthoven Board

Beerthoven Inc is a Texas state nonprofit corporation and has been determined by the IRS to be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3). Its Board of Directors is critical in governing the organization and ensuring that it continues to fulfill its mission of creating enriching musical experiences through down to earth means.

Dr. Daniel Swayze

Founder and Executive Director of the Beerthoven Concert Series. Member Ex-Officio of the Beerthoven Board.

Dr. Swayze’s piano playing has been described by the Jacksonville Review as, "Enchanting....crisp and impressive.” After an unusually late start on piano at the age of 14, Daniel began lessons with pianist Barbara Parker. He went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from Southern Oregon University in 2011 with a degree in Piano Performance, having received all of the department's highest honors and awards. Daniel has studied primarily with Dr. Alexander Tutunov, Mark Westcott, and Gregory Allen and has performed in master classes with such artists as Jon Nakamatsu, John Perry and Nelita True. Noteworthy performances include appearances as soloist for Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Rogue Valley Symphonic Band and the Grieg Piano Concerto with the Southern Oregon University Symphonic Band, as well as an appearance in Carnegie Hall with the ensemble Siskiyou Violins. He has also been featured in the Austin Chronicle and the Texas Standard and performed on KMFA Radio. Daniel completed his Master of Music degree at the University of Texas in Austin in 2014 and achieved his Doctorate at UT in Piano Performance with a Portfolio in Arts Management in 2019. In his spare time he enjoys reading, cooking, swing dancing and, of course, beer. Daniel Swayze is Isabel Certified.

Suzanne Labry

Board Member At-Large

Suzanne Labry grew up in the Texas Panhandle in a cotton farming community. Hers was a musical family, in which a cappella, shape-note singing was the dominant form of sung expression. While, sadly, Suzanne did not inherit the musical-talent gene, she was instilled with an appreciation of all sorts of music from a young age. Beerthoven’s approach to presenting musical experiences in a relaxed, accessible way without compromising quality is what drew her to the organization.

Labry has degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Ottawa. She has worked as a writer her entire professional life, spending many years as a technical writer in the computer industry in Canada and the United States. Now a mostly-retired freelancer working for various companies, she is a contributing writer for Texas Gardener Magazine. When not reading, gardening, or traveling, she now devotes her energies to volunteer work, including serving on various boards and committees, and a regular stint at the Plant Resources Center atthe University of Texas.

Rachel Anderson Rynders

Board Member At-Large

Rachel is an Attorney with the Enforcement Division of the Texas State Securities Board. She is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She began working for the Texas State Securities Board in March of 2018. In 2020, she coordinated 30+ states and a federal agency to file a civil complaint against Metals.com, a precious metals retailer defrauding elderly investors out of their retirement savings. In 2021 she coordinated state action against the cryptocurrency lending platform BlockFi and a $100M settlement between BlockFi, NASAA members, and the SEC. The action against BlockFi was followed by similar actions against Celsius Network and Voyager Digital – both of which are currently in bankruptcy. Her ongoing work includes coordinating with fellow NASAA members to investigate and create a unified approach to regulating cryptocurrency financial services offered by fintech and de-fi companies. She serves on the NASAA Corporation Finance Section’s Policy Project Group and is Co-Chair for the NASAA Enforcement Section’s Commodities and Derivatives Enforcement Project Group.

Her grandmother was a concert pianist who was actively involved in the Milwaukee Opera and found joy in bringing fantastic, classical performances to the public. She also brought those performances home. Between operatic practice sessions, motorcycle rides with singers, and spontaneous sing-a-longs, Rachel was musically and emotionally inspired by her and found herself unable to resist the draw of Beerthoven. There's no better way to spend an evening than music, beer, and congenial companionship. She's honored to be a small part of helping Beerthoven connect people with music and grow its community.
